Myths about albinism

 1. People believe it is a curse or a punish from God.  2. They are perceived as intellectually handicapped or mentally retarded.  3. People think they do not die.   4. They think their body parts are strong medicine hence they end up being abducted and killed.   5. People believe they bring luck to their families.   6. They are seen as being inclined towards evil and witchcraft.   7. Some believe that individuals with albinism are unable to go outdoors or spend time in the sun.    

Solutions

 1. Apply a dermatologist recommended sunscreen.  2. Wear caps, sunglasses, and protective clothes such as long sleeves.  3. Connect with organizations and support groups for social protections.  4. Learn coping mechanisms to deal with stigma and bullying.   5. Raise awareness about albinism.

Obstacles faced by people living with albinisim

 1. Albinism affects eyes, causing sensitivity to light and loss of vision.   2. The lack of melanin causes skin cancer.  3. Misinterpretations about albinism result in discrimination and bullying.   4. They lack self-esteem and a sense of restricted resources available.    5. Emotional and mental health problems like anxiety and depression can arise  from the physical and             social challenges associated with albinism.
